Healthcare at Hlíðaskóli

Healthcare for schoolchildren is part of general healthcare and a continuation of infant and toddler care. The goal is to improve students' health and well-being. School healthcare staff work closely with parents, school administrators, teachers and others involved in student affairs, focusing on their welfare. All information is treated confidentially. School healthcare services are recorded in the primary healthcare's electronic medical records.

Hlíðaskóli's healthcare is provided by the Hlíðahverfi healthcare center. The school nurse is present at the school on all weekdays. It's important that school staff receive information about students needing special monitoring and care. This includes chronic diseases, allergies, medication use, or changes in students' circumstances. All information is treated confidentially.

Role and guiding principles

School healthcare aims to monitor the health, development, well-being, and circumstances of primary school children. Its role is to promote physical, mental, and social health of school children and to identify and address health issues affecting students' welfare and learning ability. It also assesses environmental and situational factors affecting children's health and well-being. Regular check-ups, consultations, and education are offered. To make this possible, cooperation is needed among all in the school community: students, staff, parents, healthcare providers, and outside parties when necessary.

Main healthcare tasks:

  • 1st grade: Nursing check-up, vision test, and hearing test. Vaccination against diphtheria and tetanus.

  • 2nd grade: Nursing check-up and vision test.
