Responsibility, respect and kindness

The school's core values are responsibility, respect and kindness. These guide all activities at Hlíðaskóli. In spring 2022, Hlíðaskóli received Reykjavík City's Rainbow Certification. This aims to make City operations more LGBT+ friendly for staff and service users, preventing direct and indirect discrimination against LGBT+ people.

History of Hlíðaskóli

Hlíðaskóli opened in 1955, first in a building on Eskihlíð before moving to its current location in 1960. The school's gymnasium was built in 1981 on the eastern part of the school grounds. In 2003, an extension to the school opened, completing the building. Due to increasing student numbers, three portable classrooms were added in January 2023, with more likely to follow.
